Andre Venter — Founder, Hatton Locks
I bring around 30 years of experience building products, services, business units and businesses, with a background spanning commercial strategy, technology, financial modelling and operations.
Much of that experience comes from situations without an obvious answer: unfamiliar technology with commercial potential, international services with different economics in every market, ambitious plans with limited capital, and declining businesses where the apparent problem wasn’t the real one.
For startups, business units and small businesses, that experience offers a clearer view of their place in the market and their potential: a distinctive niche, additional revenue streams, greater market share, stronger margins or more value from the resources they already have.
The value is a broad perspective and sound, practical judgement. A technically sound idea may be commercially weak. Strong sales may conceal poor profitability. A supposed pricing problem may have its roots in people, organisation or execution. Understanding those connections makes for better decisions.

Why Hatton Locks?
Locks are a small part of a canal system, but without them nothing works. They manage height, prevent water loss, and keep the water moving just enough to sustain life, the birds, the fish, the entire ecosystem depends on them. Remove the locks and the canal becomes stagnant, then toxic, then dry in sections, breaking the route and making the canals ineffective as a means of transport.
We named ourselves after that idea. The systems and processes we put in place, IT and operational, are designed to be that kind of component in your business. Deliberate, strategic and quietly critical. Not the most visible part, but systems that hold everything together and keep everything flowing.
